Number coding scheme in Makati retained on July 26 despite suspension elsewhere in Metro Manila
The number coding scheme will still be imposed in Makati City on the day of President Noynoy Aquino’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 26, despite the suspension elsewhere in Metro Manila, reports Inquirer.net.
Since July 26 is an ordinary working day according to presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, lifting the number coding in Makati on Monday would "adversely affect the traffic situation," Makati Public Safety Director Hermenegildo San Miguel said. According to the Inquirer.net report, more than 80,000 vehicles run in Makati on a workday.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Oscar Inocentes said on July 22 that the vehicle scheme was lifted in Metro Manila to allow "unimpeded travel" for people who will watch the SONA at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.
