24 Oras video: Rep. Jules Ledesma attended 15th Congress only once, record shows
The House attendance record shows that Negros Occidental 1st District Rep. Jules Ledesma has attended the 15th Congress only once, on August 4, since it opened on July 26, reports 24 Oras. Ledesma’s fellow lawmakers said they have not seen him in Congress lately, while House Speaker Sonny Belmonte said he will talk to Ledesma. "Maybe there’s a problem we can solve by ourselves without involving the House. At this stage, we’re not in the position to say that somebody is an inveterate absentee."
Ledesma’s wife, actress Assunta de Rossi, tweeted on August 16, "(His attendance) is on record. They should’ve checked (first)." Ledesma was also absent when the 15th Congress opened on July 26, though his wife was there. She told reporters, according to 24 Oras, "Hindi ko alam kung ano ’yong schedule niya. Hindi ako nakikialam sa ganyan. He can do whatever he wants. Kung nakakuha ka ng 94 percent of the votes sa distrito mo, I think naman you must be doing something good (I don’t know and I don’t meddle with his schedule. Ninety four percent of the registered voters in the first district of Negros Occidental voted for him; he must be doing something good)."
Inquirer.net reports that Ledesma attended only three out of 50 sessions in the previous Congress, making him the 14th Congress’ top absentee. According to 24 Oras, Ledesma said his attendance record did not mean he was sitting idle; he claimed he was busy with projects in his district.
