CHECK IT OUT: Salon de Ning at the Peninsula Manila
Expect to be transported to a time of 1930s Shanghai-style glamour at the chic-est nightspot in town.
The Peninsula Manila’s Salon de Ning lets you party 1930’s Shanghai style
The Peninsula Manila recently opened Salon de Ning, a bar and lounge patterned after the glamorous lifestyle of Madame Ning, a celebrated Shanghai socialite known for being a world traveler and international hostess. With her 1930s Manila residence as the main style inspiration, Salon de Ning combines elegant extravagance with Oriental charm.
Here’s what to expect when you step inside Salon de Ning’s doors: From the Makati Tower Lobby, the entrance leads to the main lounge surrounded by four themed rooms decorated with Madame Ning’s mementos and objets d’art.
"Le Boxing Room" is a shrine to 1937 World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis who was rumored to have been madly in love with Madame Ning. The next room, the "Shoe Room" is a homage to a love for shoes with its collection of over a hundred boots, stilettos and sandals. The "Zeppelin Room" is an ode to her friendship with the German Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, known for pioneering the design of airships during the First World War. The last room, called the "Shanghai Room" is a recreation of her mansion along Shanghai’s Bund with dark wood interiors, Oriental rugs, and sepia photographs lining the walls.
The Ning Sling is a heady mix of Absolut Mandarin and lychee liqueur garnished with mint leaves and a lychee
Tipplers will like Salon de Ning’s signature Ning Sling, a combination of Absolut Mandarin and lychee liqueur garnished with mint leaves and a lychee. Those who prefer bubbly will love Salon de Ning Rosé Champagne, an exclusive label created by Deutz of France for The Peninsula Hotels. A light Asian-inspired menu is also available to complement the wine and drinks at the lounge.
Live entertainment starts at 7:30 p.m. with a weekly line-up which includes Jerianne Shane & the Brown Union, Donna (The Blue Sub) Skarlet, Bea Tantoco & the Sauce, Nyco Maca presents Gafieira and Table for Three Headrush.
