Basketball player Chris Tiu reelected as Makati barangay councilor
24 Oras report
Smart Gilas cager and GMA-7 TV host Chris Tiu was reelected as a councilor in Barangay Urdaneta, Makati City. According to 24 Oras, Tiu got the highest number of votes among the elected Urdaneta councilors this year.
Tiu, 25, downplayed his win, saying there were only a few candidates who ran for office in their small barangay. His campaign consisted of a "simple motorcade, and posters and tarpaulins put up on neighbor’s houses," he told 24 Oras. According to Makati.gov.ph, Barangay Urdaneta of District I is the smallest barangay in Makati, and bound by EDSA, Makati Avenue and Ayala Avenue. It has a population of 7,068, according to the 2007 Census.
Asked if he is planning on running for a higher position, Tiu said in a mix of Filipino and English, "Right now, it’s hard to tell. Only the Lord knows his plans for us. We are his instruments." Tiu served as the Sangguniang Kabataan chairman in their community from 2002 to 2007.
