Pinoy designer Anthony Tentativa wins first place in French fashion competition
Fashion designer Anthony Tentativa, a French national with Filipino roots, won first place in the 4th Talents de Mode in France, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. He and wife Sharon Benson bested over 1,000 contestants in September with the ready-to-wear women’s collection of their clothing line, Les Tentativas.
Contenders came from all over the world: Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and more. Talents de Mode "strives to launch and promote young designers," reports Manila Bulletin. According to the report, Les Tentativas’ edge was its reinterpretation of "the Parisian woman with lightness and freshness." Even couturier Max Chaoul reportedly praised the work of Tentativa, who also goes by the name Antonio Baughman.
According to the Talents de Mode website, the couple’s prize includes €5,000 (about P300,000), a two-year workshop in the esteemed Village des Créateurs, and a booth at next year’s Prêt-à-porter fashion fair in Paris.
The win was unexpected, Tentativa told ABS-CBNNews.com. "It was my wife who really insisted we join this competition, not me, because I have this weakness (for losing)," he told Manila Bulletin.
Tentativa hails from Catbalogan, Samar. Before focusing on fashion, he worked as a clerk at the Philippine National Bank in Paris, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. According to the Les Tentativas website, he designs the collections and his wife takes care of the label’s brand marketing. The first retail outlet of Les Tentativas is in the designer’s area of Forum des Halles in Paris.
