Catholic Bishops to bring experts to next RH Bill meeting with P-Noy
Bishop Nereo Odchimar, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said in a statement that the CBCP will bring experts to the next Reproductive Health (RH) Bill meeting with President Noynoy Aquino. PhilStar.com reports that Odchimar hopes to discuss the RH Bill "from the points of view of experts in demography, economics, law and even medicine."
"We bishops are aware of our limitations. Since our major line is the line of morality, we will enlist help from lay people representing their respective expertise," Odchimar said in the PhilStar.com report. "The majority of the Catholic Church in the Philippines is composed of lay people. So (bringing in the experts) would be a concerted presentation of the position of the Church (as a whole)."
The next meeting hasn’t been scheduled yet, but Odchimar said he hopes the CBCP will be able to persuade President Noynoy Aquino against implementing pro-choice policies. He added that the Catholic Church will continue preaching their pro-life stance even if the RH Bill is passed.
