DOT may pull plug on "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" slogan, Tourism Secretary to meet with P-Noy
Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim may pull the plug on the now infamous "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" slogan after drawing persistent criticism from the tourism industry and netizens. According to GMANews.tv, the Secretary has been summoned to a meeting by President Noynoy Aquino to talk about the controversial "copycat" campaign.
Currently, researchers are studying the slogan, Aquino said on Thursday, but due to the overwhelming violent reactions against it, Lim said DOT might drop the controversial slogan ahead of time. The secretary also commented on critics who claim "to be more knowledgeable than the "researchers" who coined the slogan," the report said. According to GMANews.tv, DOT might resurrect the old "Wow Philippines" campaign.
"Kung talagang ayaw ng tao, mas marunong pa sila sa research, e di baka umatras na lang kami (If people reject it because they think they know more than the researchers do, we will back off)," Lim said.
DOT is also currently under fire for failing to do research on the internet address associated to the slogan, which may potentially lead to a porn site www.beautifulfilipinas.com.
"Nagkamali kami sa choice ng address ... Di namin naisip may porn site (We made a wrong choice of Internet addresses. We never thought it was close to a porn site)," Lim said.
Lim is scheduled to meet with the president on Friday.
