TIME Magazine has named the late president Corazon Aquino among the 25 most powerful women of the 20th century in its TIME 100 special issue released last month, reports PhilStar.com.
TIME.com cited Aquino’s instrumental role in restoring democracy after the 1986 presidential election and the Marcos rule: "The ruling powers declared Marcos the winner, but a series of peaceful demonstrations along with backing from the church finally put Aquino in power."
Other notable personalities in the list include Nobel Prize winner and scientist Marie Curie, TV personality Oprah Winfrey, United States Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, singers Aretha Franklin and Madonna, writer Virginia Woolf, fashion icon Coco Chanel, the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the late Mother Teresa.
Aquino died last year due to colon cancer.
