Pinoy graphic designer’s coin design chosen for 2012 London Olympics memento

Filipino graphic designer Roderick Enriquez’ coin design was chosen as a memento for the 2012 London Olympics, reports The London-based designer’s entry for the wrestling sport will be used for millions of 50 pence coins, which will be distributed next year. It was one of the four designs he submitted to the International Olympic Committee.

Over 30,000 people submitted designs for the 31 Olympic sports to the competition held by Currency Manufacturer Royal Mint, according to the Fulham Chronicle. Enriquez, 34, is the only Asian among the mostly British winners. He was awarded one gold and one silver coin bearing his design.

According to the Fulham Chronicle, Enriquez said, "I simply cannot believe it, and I am so delighted to have won." He added that he is pleased that the Olympic committee chose a design by a Filipino-British national. "London 2012 is hosted by people with many cultural backgrounds."
