Rev. Alberto Maullon Jr., a 52-year-old Filipino pastor, was arrested for supposedly flashing an undercover cop at Big City Video, an adult video store in Texas, earlier this month, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. Charged with a misdemeanor sex crime, Maullon was among the people accused of inappropriate behavior when the police raided two adult video stores along the Gulf Freeway. He is out on $1,000 bail.
Maullon "requested and has been granted a leave of absence from his ministerial duties" at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Nassau Bay, My Fox Houston cited a statement issued by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. He served as a pastor in St. Paul for eight years.
My Fox Houston quoted Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston-Houston: "I ask you to join me in praying for St. Paul Parish and for Father Maullon as he addresses these very personal challenges with his priesthood. May the healing power of God be with all those impacted by this news."
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Maullon "was largely credited for building a new church (St. Paul the Apostle) that recently got an award for being the best worship space in Texas."
