World population to reach 6.9 billion by January 1, says German pro-contraceptives group

The world’s population will hit 6.9 billion by January 1, reported citing the German Foundation for World Population, a group that promotes birth control and supplies free contraception.

According to, the German group’s population meter will read 6,934,196,000 at the stroke of midnight on Friday. The trend suggests 2.6 people are born every second, higher than the estimate of the World Population Global Report of the United States Census. Factoring 4.17 total births and 1.8 total deaths per second, the US Global Report estimates a net growth of 2.37 per second.
