Pinoy film Latus wins Best International Short Film in NY festival

Latus (Beatings), a 2009 Cinemalaya entry, won Best Short Film in the international category of the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival 2010, GMANews.tv reported yesterday. Directed by GMA-7 reporter John Paul Seniel, the short is based on true stories of teenagers in Davao who were abused by their fathers.
The film aims to raise awareness about and help put a stop to corporal punishment among children, reports Manila Bulletin. According to the Cinemalaya website, it was produced in partnership with international organizations Cordaid and Save the Children Sweden.
