Filipino-American talents have been nominated for the 2011 Oscars, including True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld who is up for Best Supporting Actress. Steinfeld, 14, was born in California to a Filipino mother, reports ABS-CBNNews.com.
According to Asian Journal, she has received at least 16 nominations for her performance in True Grit, including a Best Actress nod from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and a Best Supporting Actress nomination from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Meanwhile, Filipino-American artist Matthew Libatique is in the running for Best Cinematography for Black Swan. Pixar’s Toy Story 3, which some Filipino animators--"Pixnoys" if you will--worked on, was nominated for Best Picture, Best Animated Feature Film, among others.
The Oscars will be aired live on February 28 starting at 6:30 a.m. on the Velvet channel. Catch the main ceremony at 10 a.m. on ABS-CBN.
