Ford Supermodel of the World winner Danica Magpantay was featured on the online counterparts of Vogue and The New York Daily News this week.
Seen on Vogue.com, the 17-year-old Filipina model was among those tapped to showcase the 2011 fall collection of Organic by John Patrick. Made for the "modern-day vagabond," the collection includes "tea-set florals scattered over sheer dresses and voluminous hand-knit cardigans," according to the website.
Meanwhile, NY Daily News wrote about the increasing demand for the Asian look worldwide this season. Magpantay was listed among the Asian models making waves in the fashion industry, alongside Liu Wen, the first Asian model to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway, and Godfrey Gao, the first Asian male face of Louis Vuitton.
Teen Vogue Beauty Editor Eva Chen told NY Daily News, "Every season, there’s this one great Asian model, but these days there’s a whole group of them... It’s less of that token Asian in a show and more of a really nice consistency of great girls." She said the shift toward Eastern looks could be due to the growing number of Asian-American designers and the economical growth of Asia.
