Balitang America report
Filipino singing sensation Charice joined celebrities in the fight against heart disease at the Red Dress Awards in New York on Tuesday, reports ABS-CBN News. Created by Woman’s Day, the annual ceremony honored people who have made "a significant impact in the fight against heart disease in women."
ABS-CBN News quoted Charice, 18, as saying, "It’s really important because I want, not only the women, but all the people around the world to take care of themselves (and) their hearts." The singer had a younger brother who died of heart disease 15 years ago.
At the ceremony, Charice sang "I Will Survive" and got a standing ovation from the star-studded audience. She also performed songs from the movie The Bodyguard, according to ABS-CBN News.
One of the night’s honorees, NBC’s Today Show co-host Hoda Kotb, said, "Who is better than Charice? When she sang on Oprah that time, I stood up on my couch (and) applauded alone in my living room because I thought she sang like an angel."
