Ballsy Aquino-Cruz says "heaven must have planned" for P-Noy to be President 25 years after EDSA 1

In a Dateline episode aired this week, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz said "heaven must have planned" for her brother President Noynoy Aquino to hold the highest office in the land 25 years after the People Power Revolution. Dubbed EDSA 1, the revolution catapulted their mother Corazon Aquino to the presidency, replacing strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

"Fr. Catalino Arevalo, who’s really very close to us, has told us several times that there is no such thing as a coincidence (and) that God plans everything," Cruz told Dateline, reports ABS-CBN News. "Heaven must have planned it that Noy would be president 25 years after (EDSA 1)."

Meanwhile, Cruz’s celebrity sister Kris Aquino said their mother never thought of leaving the country if the People Power Revolution failed. "Hindi talaga character ng mom ko ’yon (It’s not in my mom’s character)."

Another Aquino sister, Pinky Aquino-Abellada told Dateline that she thought her wedding would not push through. At the time, their mother was supporting the protest against Marcos’ claim that he won the snap elections.

"For security reasons, she wanted sana a small private chapel. But I said, ’Mom, the invitations are out. (The) church we kept it in San Agustin, pero ’yong reception, pinalitan. I never opened the wedding gifts kasi baka nga may bomba. So binuksan lahat ng security ng mom ko, then binigyan na lang ako ng listahan."

("For security reasons, she wanted to hold the wedding in a small private chapel. But I said, ’Mom, the invitations are out.’ We still held the ceremony at San Agustin but we changed the reception venue. I never got to open the wedding gifts because there might be a bomb hidden inside. So my mom’s security personnel opened all of it and then gave me a list.")
