Manila needs more parks and promenades, says French study
There is a need for more parks and promenades in Manila according to a one-year study conducted by France-based professors and students, reports Yahoo News. The study covered Intramuros, Paco, Sta. Ana, Malate and Navotas.
"In Intramuros, there’s a need to reconnect its east and west areas and shift its port from cargo terminal to passenger terminal," Professor Christiane Blancot of Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette said last week.
The study suggested building a corridor connecting Pasig River and Paco Cemetery, a promenade along the Quiapo riverbanks and by the sea in Malate, and a network of stilts and passageways in the Navotas fishing village. It also proposed transforming an area in Sta. Ana occupied by warehouses into a park.
Blancot said they are open to proposing the study’s suggestions to the local government.
"This presentation showed that a plan can be done... We need to enlighten the government and help in urban planning," Heritage Conservation Society President Nathaniel Von Einsiedel said.
