Watch and Weep: Dog in Sendai refuses to leave ailing dog friend behind
A touching story of loyalty in the time of tsunami.
A CBS report showed this video clip of a dog found amidst the rubble in Sendai post-quake on March 11 that at first looked scared and alone, but upon closer inspection appeared to be guarding another injured or sick dog. CBS reporter Katie Couric described the dogs as "inseparable even during a disaster" and called it "a touching example of loyalty." Both dogs have now been rescued, according to the report.
A Japanese news report featured a longer clip of the Sendai dog standing vigil to his friend. According to the English translation by Toshiyuki Kitamura as posted on Yahoo.com, the dog had on a silver collar and "must be someone’s pet." One of the reporters said: "He is protecting the dog. That is why he did not want us to approach them. He was trying to keep us at bay."
