Ex-ad industry leader and CCP president Emily Abrera encourages ad pullout from Willing Willie

(SPOT.ph) Cultural Center of the Philippines Chairperson Emily Abrera, a retired advertising industry leader, has encouraged advertisers to pull out their ads from the TV show Willing Willie, reports ABS-CBN News.

Earlier this week, Jollibee Foods Corporation suspended Mang Inasal’s ad placements on the show. "I laud their action," Abrera told ABS-CBN News in a report yesterday. The news comes after the backlash that followed the viral video of a six-year-old boy crying while gyrating on Willing Willie.

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro said the incident shouldn’t be blamed on soley one sector. ABS-CBN News quoted him: "This is a collective problem. It’s because of poverty at kawalan ng moral values at edukasyon (and the lack of moral values and education)."

According to Marisa Marin, a clinical psychologist from the MLAC Institute for Children and Families, some parents defended the "macho dancing" of the boy on Willing Willie. "Dapat maturuan sila kung kailan nagkakaroon ng abuso at dapat maging aware sila na inaabuso na sila (They should be aware of what constitutes child abuse)," she said. The institute will hold workshops to address the issue in poverty-stricken areas, Marin told ABS-CBN News.
