(SPOT.ph) Actor AJ Perez, 18, died from "multiple head injuries" that he sustained due to a highway accident in Tarlac yesterday, reports ABS-CBN News. Perez, his father Gerardo and four others were aboard an ABS-CBN van that collided with a provincial passenger bus on McArthur Highway in Barangay San Julian at 12:10 a.m. A hospital in Paniqui, Tarlac declared Perez dead on arrival.
Police reports said the ABS-CBN van supposedly tried to overtake a trailer truck and then collided with the passenger bus. Perez and his companions were on their way back to Manila from a Dagupan show. He Tweeted on Saturday, "On the way home already from Dagupan. Long drive ahead."
ABS-CBN’s talent arm Star Magic said Perez’ cornea was donated to the eye bank, reports TV Patrol World. His remains lie in state at La Salle Greenhills in San Juan. Public viewing is on April 18 (from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight) and April 19 (until 12 noon), reports PEP.ph.
Perez, who was part of the main cast of primetime drama Sabel and the group Gigger Boys, was included in the "Next Big Thing" list by YES! magazine in its April 2011 issue.
"He wants to be a good actor! He constantly checks on you whenever you bump into him. ’How’s my performance? Were you able to monitor? How’s my performance so far?’" ABS-CBN Business Unit Head Deo Endrinal said, reports PEP.ph. Meanwhile, the network’s chairman emeritus Johnny Manahan said, "If he gets the right breaks, he’d be like a Rico Yan."
