Pinay golfers advance to quarterfinals of New Zealand Women’s Amateur Championship
(SPOT.ph) Filipino golfers Chihiro Ikeda, Jayvie Agojo and Lovelyn Guioguio advanced to the quarterfinals of match play in the 2011 Lion Foundation New Zealand Women’s Amateur Championship in Christchurch, reports GMA News Online.
In the first round, Ikeda beat New Zealand’s Grace Senior, 7-6. Agojo and Guioguio won over Hanna Seifert and Emily Eng, respectively, 1-up. On the other hand, the Philippines’ Sarah Jane Ababa lost to Laura Hoskin, 1-down, reports GMA News Online.
The three Filipinos also came out on top in the afternoon matches: Ikeda with a 3-2 victory, Agojo with 5-3, and Guioguio with 5-4.
National Coach Bong Lopez told GMA News Online that he hopes the three will enter the semi-finals to ensure that at least one Filipino makes it to the final round. "Ikeda and Guioguio are bracketed and one will have to go if they book a semis seat. Agojo is alone in the other bracket."
