Mar Roxas likely to be P-Noy’s de facto chief of staff
(SPOT.ph) Defeated vice presidential candidate Mar Roxas is likely to serve as President Noynoy Aquino’s de facto chief of staff, reports GMA News Online. However, the President said yesterday, "I’m not yet sure of the exact title, but it’s something to that effect."
According to GMA News Online, Roxas is expected to assume the post after the one-year ban on appointing defeated candidates ends on May 11. However, Inquirer.net reports that the ban expires on June 30.
According to Inquirer.net, the President told reporters in an informal talk in Indonesia on Saturday that Roxas would coordinate with government officials involved in policy making "so that when it reaches (him) it would only be decided on. There’d be no more need for multiple briefings."
A Malacañang source who asked for anonymity told Inquirer.net, "It will be interesting to find out how he (Roxas) and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. will be able to work together." According to Inquirer.net, the source was referring to the rival factions that Roxas and Ochoa belong to, the so-called Balay Group (Roxas) and Samar Group (Ochoa).
However, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III told Inquirer.net, "Mar is a politician. He would know how to temper the different sides... He will not look for enemies. He will look for allies."
