CamSur governor faces graft charges again, plans to sue for harassment

( Former Camarines Sur Provincial Board Member Carlo Batalla filed a complaint against current CamSur Governor Luis Raymond "LRay" Villafuerte for alleged malversation of public funds involving the purchase of P20-million worth of fuel, reports ABS-CBN News.

According to Batalla, who filed the case before the Office of the Ombudsman, the said fuel was not delivered and that Villafuerte was unable to present the documents that would account for the use of the funds. In his complaint, Batalla noted that the fuel was supposed to be spent for 121 MV LRAY I's ferry trips from June to October 2010. The vessel, however, was recorded to have made only seven trips during that period.

Batalla added that Villafuerte allegedly spent over P7 million to run generators in four different facilities owned by the province. He requested the Ombudsman to order the governor's six-month preventive suspension pending investigation of the criminal complaint.

In a separate ABS-CBN report however, Villafuerte said he will countersue Batalla for harassment. "(It's) very obvious, harassment ito at kakasuhan din namin siya ng malicious prosecution dahil obvious wala naman siyang ginagawa kundi kasuhan tayo ng walang base (We're suing him for malicious prosecution since it's obvious he has nothing better to do than to make baseless accusations)." The governor also pinned Rep. Noli Fuentebella to be behind the complaint.

According to the regional newspaper Bicol Mail, Batalla has filed nine graft and corruption charges against Villafuerte in recent years. Six of which have been junked.
