Willie Revillame, Mikey Arroyo, Bong Revilla + more personalities donate cash to buy new cars for Mitsubishops

(SPOT.ph) Stars and politicians have donated money in support of the bishops who received utility vehicles from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, reports PEP.ph. The bishops returned the controversial "donations" after being accused of accepting them for political patronage.

The fundraising campaign is organized by former Malacañang lawyer Romulo Macalintal and former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, who in an earlier report promised to help the Church in the PCSO controversy. As of July 20, eight days after the drive began, the two have already collected about P1.5 million.

Among the personalities who donated are: TV host Willie Revillame (P100,000), Rep. Mikey Arroyo (P50,000), Sen. Tito Sotto (P200,000), Sen. Chiz Escudero (P100,000), Rep. Amado Bagatsing (P100,000), ex-Sen. Ernie Maceda (P10,000), Jojo Mitra (P50,000), and Sen. Bong Revilla and his wife, Rep. Lani Mercado (P200,000). Radyo Veritas also gave P100,000.

Aside from bringing the campaign to Cebu City this Saturday, July 23, Macalintal said they might also ask Catholic parishioners for donations in order to raise P8.2-million-the total alleged amount given by the PCSO to the bishops.
