(SPOT.ph) First introduced in the 1930s in South Philadelphia, the iconic Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is a combo of sautéed ribeye beef, grilled onions and gooey melted cheese enveloped in a long, crusty roll. In Manila, the newly-opened The Cheese Steak Shop on Arnaiz Avenue in Makati now offers Philly-style cheesesteak sandwiches via its first Asian outpost of the US franchise.
How does a cheesesteak sandwich get the quintessential Philadelphia flavor? According to Rebecca Enriquez, operations manager of The Cheese Steak Shop, "It’s all about the bread-crusty yet soft on the inside-and of course, the meat and the melted cheese. At The Cheese Steak Shop, we use amoroso bread and American cheese for our sandwiches." The Cheese Steak Shop has Classic Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches (starts at P280) which can be made using steak or chicken. Premium cheesesteak sandwiches, specialty vegetarian sandwiches, Italian Hoagies and the 10-inch The King of Philly cheesesteak (P699) with overflowing meat and cheese, complete the sandwich menu.
The Cheese Steak Shop’s Classic Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are also topped with sweet and spicy chili, which add more zing to your average sandwich. "You can also customize your sandwich or have us serve the chili on the side," Enriquez adds. The Cheese Steak Shop also has a myriad additional topping choices for the big sandwich-eater like spinach, lettuce, bacon, mushrooms, and deli meats (additional toppings start at P25 each).
