Oil spill from Iloilo shipwreck worsens
(SPOT.ph) The Philippine Coast Guard fears that the oil leak from the sunken MV Asia Malaysia ship will worsen, reports GMA News. The ship, which was en route to Iloilo from Cebu, sank on Monday, August 1, due to the storm. According to ABS-CBN News, it was reportedly carrying 21,000 liters of oil (however, a GMA News report said it was 18,000 liters).
As of last night, the oil spill has stretched to 1.5 kilometers near Manapla, Negros Occidental, reports State of the Nation. According to the report, Trans-Asia, the owner of MV Asia Malaysia, is barred from operating until it completes the requirements mandated by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).
