PNoy: Simplify announcement of class suspensions during storms
(SPOT.ph) To eliminate confusion, President Noynoy Aquino said yesterday, August 3, that the government will streamline the process of announcing class suspensions during stormy weather, reports ABS-CBN News. His statement came following complaints against the Commission on Higher Education for refusing to postpone classes in the tertiary level despite heavy rain and floods on Tuesday.
Aquino blamed the vague process on "overzealousness," reports GMA News. "May konting overzealousness. 'Yon bang sobrang ganadong mai-disseminate lahat ito, tuloy nagkakaroon ng confusion at times (Some are a bit overzealous. Their eagerness to disseminate news causes confusion sometimes)."
However, the President clarified that colleges and universities have the prerogative to cancel classes because they have a broader range of "academic freedom." "Mga colleges are in the best position to determine whether or not to cancel classes. 'Yong CHED is not like DepEd (Department of Education)."
