Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez ask Vatican for permission to wed
(SPOT.ph) Actor Robin Padilla revealed on entertainment show Showbiz News Ngayon yesterday, August 3, that he and wife Mariel Rodriguez tried to ask permission from the Vatican to wed in Catholic rights, reports ABS-CBN News. The couple, who just returned from their second honeymoon in Europe, got married in August last year in a mosque near India's Taj Mahal.
The Muslim action star said they were unable to complete all of Vatican's requirements during their two-day stay. "Siguro pag balik... Ako hindi ako susuko. Sana si Mariel huwag din siyang sumuko (Maybe next time. I'm not going to give up. I hope Mariel doesn't either)." In a separate interview, however, Rodriguez, a Catholic, said it was no longer her wish to marry in a church. She was only grateful that the honeymoon strengthened the love between the two of them. "When I fell in love with Robin, I was really his world... So dito sa trip na 'to naramdaman ko na ako ulit ang buhay niya (In this trip, I felt that I was his life again)... Thank you for making me fall in love with you all over again," she said.
News of the couple's intention to validate their marriage through Catholic rites began in April. According to PEP.ph, the pair was not permitted by the Catholic Church to have a church wedding, pushing Padilla to seek permission from the Vatican.
