PH offers cheapest broadband access among 19 emerging countries
(SPOT.ph) The Philippines may have the priciest electricity in Asia, but it also boasts the cheapest broadband access, reports Newsbytes.ph. A study conducted by Australian-based data monitor firm Ovum revealed that out of 19 emerging countries, the Philippines had the most affordable broadband options. The only downside is majority of the population have no access to such technology.
According to the report, though broadband in the Philippines costs as low as $1.28 (P55) per 100 megabytes, consumers in emerging markets are still paying more for fixed and wireless broadband than their more mature market counterparts; the relatively low price is also expensive for majority of the consumers in the country. "This lack of affordability is a major inhibitor to unlocking the growth potential in these markets," the study said.
However, Ovum also expects the prices to drop slightly as network operators and service providers compete to attract more subscribers.
