Steve Jobs resigns from Apple; Tim Cook to be CEO

( Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of technology giant Apple today, August 25, reports At Jobs’ recommendation, COO Tim Cook has taken over the position while Jobs has moved on to become the company’s chairman.

In a letter published on, Jobs wrote: I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come." Jobs said he looks forward to watching Apple grow and to contributing to its success in his new role.

Jobs’ indefinite medical leave has sparked questions about his health and ability to continue at Apple, reports Reuters. A separate story revealed that Jobs’ medical history includes pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant.
