OMB head Ronnie Ricketts: Piracy keeps local movie industry on a downtrend
(SPOT.ph) Optical Media Board Chair Ronnie Ricketts maintained that piracy remains a major cause in the local movie industry’s decline, reports BE Online. A Bombo Radyo report revealed that previously, around 200 local films were made annually, but the advent of piracy has reduced that number to about 65 a year.
To further his campaign against piracy, Ricketts went to the Isabela province yesterday, August 24, to meet with government officials and leaders of the Muslim community. According to the report, Ricketts conferred with Muslim traders and encouraged those who engage in piracy to avail the livelihood projects offered by the local government as an alternative source of income.
