Manny Pacquiao named one of "10 Amazing Young Catholics"
(SPOT.ph) UK-based newspaper Catholic Herald cited world-renowned boxer and incumbent Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao as one of 10 Amazing Young Catholics, reports ABS-CBN News. Pacquiao, 32, ranked sixth, after Live Action founder Lila Rose and Catholic blogger Rocco Palmo.
The article, "Meet ten amazing young Catholics" written by Mary O’ Regan, said that Pacquiao is "leading many boxing fans to the Catholic faith by his example." According to O’ Regan, the boxer always acknowledges God in his matches: "Before each boxing match he kneels in prayer, asking for the grace that he needs to win the fight. After each bout, he organizes a Mass of thanksgiving, thanking God that neither he nor his opponent have been harmed."
Pacquiao’s charitable contributions, as well as his staunch support against the Reproductive Health Bill, were not left unnoticed. "Manny has been pilloried by his more liberal political colleagues," wrote O’Regan, "but he maintains that marriage is an institution that should not be violated by lawmakers and that better marriage preparation must be provided instead."
