Hollywood-like sign in Batangas approved by provincial council; sparks latest PH Photoshop meme

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that the province of Batangas may soon put up a landmark similar to the iconic "Hollywood" sign.

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that the province of Batangas may soon put up a landmark similar to the iconic "Hollywood" sign.

Citing a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, the report quoted Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste II who revealed that the provincial council has approved a resolution to build a "hard-to-miss landmark and potential tourism draw." The said resolution, which is allegedly the idea of Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto, was approved on October 5.

Leviste explained that the proposed landmark would be "erected on Taal Volcano and will be positioned following the contours of the volcano." The letters of the proposed "Batangas" signage, which would measure 14-meters tall and occupy around 110 meters of land, would have the same font as that of the Hollywood sign.

However, according to a GMA News Online report, the sign still needs to be approved by the Protected Area Management Board since Taal Volcano is "part of a protected area covered by Republic Act 7586 (National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992), which lists "mutilating, defacing or destroying objects of natural beauty" as one of its prohibited acts."

In any case, news of the proposed "Batangas" has sparked a new Photoshop that’s similar to the DPWH Photoshop meme. The  Hollywood Pilipinas Facebook page features edited photographs of various Philippine locations-bearing signs ala Hollywood. A number of "signs" are actually memorable lines from Vilma Santos movies.
