Live Science reports that Architects Southwest, an architecture firm based in Louisiana, has launched the 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition. Artists, architects, and other zombie enthusiasts were asked to design "a structure that can withstand a full-on zombie assault on civilization as we know it."

According to the information posted on the Zombie Safe House Competition Facebook page, the scenario given to contestants is this: "In a Zombie Apocalypse, a widespread (usually global) rise of zombies hostile to human life engages in a general assault on civilization. Victims of zombies may become zombies themselves. This causes the outbreak to become an exponentially growing crisis: the spreading ’zombie plague/virus’ swamps normal military and law enforcement organizations, leading to the panicked collapse of civilian society until only isolated pockets of survivors remain, scavenging for food and supplies in a world reduced to a pre-industrial hostile wilderness."

The annual competition started in 2010. This year, there are 188 entries are vying for prizes that any zombie geek would die for. You can check out the awesome entries on the 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition site. Voting is open until October 31, 2011.
