Interaksyon.com reports that President Benigno Aquino III has approved the P1.16-billion rehabilitation of the 30-year old NAIA Terminal 1. Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Secretary Mar Roxas also revealed that officials from Singapore's multi-awarded Changi Airport have offered to give their expert opinion on functional design and systems improvement.

The Interaksyon.com report also enumerated the projected breakdown of some of the rehabilitation expenditures. Around P340-million will be spent for structural works (retrofitting of columns and the reinforcing of slabs). About P500 million is for aesthetics and interior design (includes replacing and adding 50 percent more immigration counters). Some P300 million is for the construction of a rapid exit taxiway (RET) to relieve runway congestion and cut delays or the waiting time for flights. Some P20 million will be spent for the repair and rehabilitation of all the 72 toilet facilities in NAIA 1 (including fixing the lavatories, water closets, urinals, and amenities).
