GMA News Online reports that Sinag Pilipinas, the country’s men's basketball team, won the gold medal in the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. The team beat Thailand, 85-57, in the gold-medal match held on Sunday night (November 20).
Greg Slaughter led the team with 16 points. RR Garcia scored 12 points. The top rookies of the last University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Kiefer Ravena, contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Coach Norman Black said, "This means a lot to us, not just for me but the whole team. What's amazing about this team is it's a young team. It shows we have a bright future." Black, like all of his wards, is a first-timer in the SEA Games. The report pointed out that the SEA Games gold medal is a great addition to Black’s illustrious coaching career, which includes a PBA grand slam and a four-peat in the UAAP.
The Philippines is ranked sixth in the SEA Games’ overall medal tally, with 49 gold, 44 silver and 66 bronze medals.
