ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Senators Francis Escudero and Alan Peter Cayetano are opposing the plan of  former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s camp  to request that she be placed under house arrest. The two senators want her to be transferred to a regular detention facility.

According to the report, Escudero told reporters that "although Arroyo must be accorded respect as a former president, she must not be given special treatment." He pointed out that "ordinary people accused of crimes are immediately taken to jail." He added that "the case the government filed against (Arroyo) is strong enough to put her ’where any other detainee should be held’ without bail."

Cayetano echoed Escudero’s statement, saying that "placing Arroyo under house arrest amounts to special treatment." He said, "It’s the burden of the Arroyos to show that there are special circumstances for house arrest."
