GMA News Online reports that Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez is asking church leaders to help forge peace and reconciliation between President Noynoy Aquino and the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines website, Gutierrez  observed: "Bishops are capable of doing that specially those bishops who have more ascendancy."   Gutierrez then explained that he was referring to retired Archbishops Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales (Manila) and Ricardo Cardinal Vidal (Cebu), and new Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle. According to the article, Rosales, Vidal, and Tagle "are all known to be close to Aquino’s late mother former President Corazon Aquino."

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes also urged public officials to "show gestures of peace and reconciliation" especially since Christmas is fast approaching. "I am okay for that (reconciliation) especially this time of Christmas. A time for peace, reconciliation, understanding and respect to each other," he said.

Supreme Court spokesperson Atty. Jose Midas Marquez said Corona "is likely to be open to possible attempts by Catholic bishops at a reconciliation." In a dzBB interview, Marquez said, "I have not talked to Corona about it, but I am inclined to believe he will take part in the initiative of the bishops."
