Pinoys abroad warned vs. scam artists who may take advantage of Sendong disaster

GMA News Online-citing an article posted on Gulf News-reports that Consul General Benito Valeriano, who is in the the United Arab Emirates, warned Filipinos against new Facebook and Twitter accounts soliciting donations for Sendong victims.

GMA News Online-citing an article posted on Gulf News-reports that Consul General Benito Valeriano, who is in the the United Arab Emirates, warned Filipinos against new Facebook and Twitter accounts soliciting donations for Sendong victims.

 

 

Valeriano pointed out: "They can always send their donations to the Philippine  Red Cross (PRC). If there’s any official advisory from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila regarding this matter, we will let the public know." He reiterated that "Filipino expatriates who wish to give financial assistance to the victims should send it through credible and recognized organizations."

 

Scam artists are known to take advantage of post-disaster aid efforts, banking on the confusion to conceal their nefarious intentions as well as cover their tracks.
