There were 1,200 adult respondents in Metro Manila, as well as "the balance of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao" who revealed how they felt about 2012 via face-to-face interviews. As it turns out, 95 percent of those surveyed are very hopeful about 2012.

GMA News Online reports that the Social Weather Stations (SWS) conducted a survey from December 3 to 7. There were 1,200 adult respondents in Metro Manila, as well as "the balance of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao" who revealed how they felt about 2012 via face-to-face interviews. As it turns out, 95 percent of those surveyed are very hopeful about 2012.

SWS pointed out: "This matches the all-time high 95 percent in 2002 who were hopeful of entering the 2003 New Year. It is also two points higher than the 93 percent who entered 2011 New Year with hope."

According to the report, New Year hope was highest among Class E or the poorest masses, and was very high in Mindanao and Metro Manila.

However, GMA News Online noted that the survey "was conducted before tropical storm Sendong devastated parts of Mindanao and Visayas, leaving more than 1,000 dead and P1 billion in damage to property."

In any case, SWS disclosed that New Year hope "has always been customarily high."
