ABS-CBNNews.com reports that on Wednesday, January 25, "the Organisasyon ng PIlipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), led by its officers Ogie Alcasid and Mitch Valdez went to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to seek assistance in collecting up to P1.8 million for the equity clearance of the foreign artists appearing in the musical." Mamma Mia! opened on Tuesday night (January 24)  at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). It was originally set to run until February 12 (February 14 in some listings), but it has been extended to February 19.

The report noted that "OPM wants performances of the musical Mamma Mia! stopped if the producers of the touring musical don’t pay for the equity clearance."

For their part, OPM cited their memorandum of agreement with BI, which stipulates that "foreign artists performing in the Philippines are required to get an equity clearance."

ABS-CBNNews.com quoted BI spokesman Atty. Tonette Mangrobang, who said that Mamma Mia! "is exempted from this requirement because it is a theater group and that it had the endorsement of the Asosasyon ng Musikerong Pilipino (APM)."

Mangrobang went on to say that Mamma Mia! producer Concertus Inc. already "paid around P300,000 for the special working permits for the 57 (foreign) artists [performing in the show]."
