The Philippine Collegian reports that on Wednesday, February 1, that Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina-a fourth year Political Science major "is in critical condition at the surgical intensive care unit of Capitol Medical Center after being attacked by a robber and three other accomplices at the UP Diliman (UPD) Univeristy Student Council (USC) office on February 1 (Wednesday)." According to the report, the incident happened between 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. The USC office is located at UPD’s Vinzons Hall.
Â
The report, citing information from CMC doctors, noted that Hina "may have been hit with an ice pick just above the left temple, fracturing her skull and knocking her unconcious."
Â
The Philippine Collegian further revealed that "the UPDP was able to arrest one of the suspects, Carlo Pecayo, 35, and a resident of Antipolo, Rizal, a few minutes after the crime." It also revealed: "Pecayo is now detained at the Quezon City Police District Station 9 while the QCPD is also conducting a manhunt for Pecayo's accomplices who are still at large. One of them was identified as Dante Santos, also a resident of Antipolo, while the other two are still unidentified."
Â
Pecayo’s swift capture was made possible because Vinzons Hall security guard Gerry Docto had already tried to stop him. Docto had noticed Pecayo at Vinzons Hall and had called his attention because he wanted to inspect Pecayo’s backpack. Pecayo had started running and had gotten into a taxi cab. Docto took down the taxi’s plate number and immediately reported it to the UPDP. The report said that the cab was located and stopped by roving guards before it could leave the campus premises.
Â
Quoting UPDP desk officer Cesar Oliquino, the report said that "Hina’s bag, two laptops, and an ice pick was recovered from Pecayo, who could face charges of robbery and frustrated homicide."
