CHECK IT OUT: Halal food at Robinsons Supermarkets
New food options from the supermarket chain
(SPOT.ph) It's not always easy to find food choices that follow a certain set of standards, let alone regulations imposed by religion. To cater to the preferences of our Muslim brothers and sisters, Robinsons Supermarket Corporation created a Halal food line. Halal, according to Chef See Cheong Yan , is a process where food must be prepared in a hygienic, clean, and safe manner from production to presentation. Muslims are required only to eat Halal food unless it’s in dire circumstaces (think stranded in a desert). Producers of Halal are even screened by a committee comprised of Islamic scholars before they can be given certification.
"It's a little more expensive than 'regular' food due to the stringent standards that the producer has to adhere to in order to guarantee food safety," said Chef See. "(But) at the end of the day, it represents savings because the food is safe to eat."
Robinsons' Halal offerings not only widen the number of options for Muslims, it also introduces Filipinos to a different type of food-one prepared in the purest and healthiest way possible. The Wan Chicken Sate (P434) or the Wan Beef Sate (P454) are good picks for the diner on the go. You can also buy plain Mantou bread for P137-a delicious snack especially dipped in savory broth. Other items include sesame balls, fish balls, tofu, and dumplings. According to Chef See, these items may be ingrediedients for dishes like salads, wraps, and stews. Among his dishes that use Halal are the Fusipim King Crab Roll Salad, the Fusipim Tausi and Seafood Stew, and the Wan Chicken and Beef Sate Bowl with Peanut Gravy.
