InterAksyon.com, citing information from an Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, reports that "over 13 million Filipinos were reported jobless as adult unemployment hit a fresh record-high in the first quarter of 2012." The report noted that the SWS’ first-quarter survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews from March 10 to 13 among 1,200 adults nationwide.

The SWS survey results, which were first published on Business World on Monday, May 21, "showed that 34.4 percent of Filipinos aged 18 years old and above were unemployed." That translated to "approximately 13.8 million individuals."

The report explained that unemployment was "defined as adults who did not have work and were looking for a job." The breakdown was as follows: 13 percent retrenched, 15 percent resigned, and six percent were first-time jobseekers.
