Krista Angela M. Montealegre of InterAksyon.com reports that on Wednesday, July 25, DMCI Holdings Inc. president and chief executive officer Isidro Consunji revealed that "they will proceed with the development of a residential tower-dubbed the Torre de Manila project-behind the Rizal Park." The report quoted Consunji, who said, "I think the project will go through. I think may comments lang and Council ng Manila which we try to address." He also added that the company had already "received its building permit for the Torre de Manila project, just 30 meters across the Luneta Park, and 789 meters from the Rizal Monument."
However, as the report noted, "the Manila City council began an inquiry into the project last month after it was presented a petition by nearly 4,000 signatories led by artist-activist Carlos Celdran, who claims the high-rise residential tower will mar the view of the Jose Rizal Monument." The report added that "the Manila City council will file complaints in court against local government and corporate officials after a report from the oversight and ad hoc committees showed violations in the construction of the project."
