ABS-CBNNews.com reports that "a restored high-definition (HD) version of Peque Gallaga’s debut movie, Oro Plata Mata (1982), will be the opening film of this year's Cinema One Originals Festival on November 28." This is also part of the ABS-CBN Restoration Project, in partnership with Central Digital Lab, Inc. Ishmael Bernal’s Himala was the first to be restored in HD quality.
The report quoted Leo Katigbak, head of ABS-CBN Film Archives, who had earlier announced that the following Star Cinema films would also be resptored in HD:Olivia Lamasan’s Maalaala Mo Kaya and Madrasta; Laurice Guillen’s Tanging Yaman; Rory Quintos’ Anak, Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s Bagong Buwan and Chito Roño's Dekada '70.
The report noted: "Set in the province of Negros during World War II, Oro Plata Mata tells the story of how two haciendero families cope with the changes brought about by the war. The title refers to the old superstition that staircases in a house should not end in a multiple of three, in keeping with a pattern of oro (gold), plata (silver) and mata (bad luck). The ensemble cast included Sandy Andolong, Cherie Gil, Mitch Valdes, Lorli Villanueva, Liza Lorena, Ronnie Lazaro, ides Cuyugan-Asencio, and Joel Torre (in his debut role)." The report added that the film "won the 1982 Gawad Urian for best picture, direction, cinematography, production design, musical score and sound."
