Members of the academe intend to join U.S.-based bloggers in filing an ethics complaint against Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III over alleged plagiarism in some of his speeches.

GMA News Online reports Dr. Lisandro Claudio and other members of the academe will file a complaint before the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges on Tuesday. UP Center for Women’s Studies director Dr. Sylvia Estrada Claudio, former De La Salle College of Liberal Arts dean Dr. Antonio P. Contrera, and lawyer Ibarra Gutierrez III will also sign the complaint against Sotto for violating the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. "Other professors are reportedly intending to add their names to the complaint," the report said.

The complaint stems from allegations that Sotto plagiarized from U.S.-based blogs for his speeches against the Reproductive Health bill. Sarah Couture Pope, Janice Formichella , Peter Engelman have announced plans to file a complaint against Sotto.

Kerry Kennedy, daughter of the late U.S. senator Robert F. Kennedy has also criticized Sotto for using parts of her father’s speech without attribution. Sotto defended himself, saying he did not copy from Kennedy when he translated the speech into Filipino.
