Fifteen Filipinos were among the victims of an explosion on an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana over the weekend, the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC says.

A Sun.Star Online report quotes Ambassador Jose Cuisia as saying four of the 15 Filipino casualties were in critical condition. "Information reaching the Embassy said the Filipinos are employees of Grand Isle Shipyard Inc. and are all being treated in hospitals in Louisiana at the moment," he said.

Two Filipino oil platform workers remain missing after the blast, which reportedly happened while workers were using a cutting torch atop the oil platform. "Aircraft and vessels from the United States Coast Guard are still searching for the two missing Filipinos," Cuisia said.
