Astronomers have found a habitable planet orbiting a nearby star, just 12 light years away.

Xinhua reports on InterAksyon.com that astronomers have found a potentially habitable planet among the five that orbit Tau Ceti , a sun-like star. "One of the planets has a mass about five times that of the Earth and lies in the star’s ’habitable zone’ -- the right orbital distance from the star where temperature is neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water, which is essential for life, to exist on a planet’s surface," the report said.

The report quotes Steve Vogt of the University of California, Santa Cruz, one of the authors of the study, as saying the galaxy has many Earth-like planets.  "They are everywhere, even right next door," he said.
