Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, 5 other councilors released from jail after court rejects illegal gambling cases filed against them

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that on Saturday, February 16, Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno and councilors Joel Chua, Re Fugoso, Jong Isip, Yul Nieto and Let-Let Zarcal were arrested for holding a bingo game in Santa Cruz, Manila.

PEP and ABS-CBNNews.com report that on Saturday, February 16, Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno and councilors Joel Chua, Re Fugoso, Jong Isip, Yul Nieto and Let-Let Zarcal were arrested  for holding a bingo game in Santa Cruz, Manila.

 

The report noted: "Manila Police District (MPD) Supt. Ricardo Layug said they confiscated bingo cards bearing Moreno's name and his running mate, former President Joseph Estrada, who is running for the position of Manila Mayor. But Moreno said they have been holding bingo games for five years already but were arrested only now. He insisted that they were not violating any laws and that the bingo game was legal."

 

However, the report revealed that Moreno and company were "were released Sunday morning, February 17, after the court rejected the illegal gambling case against them." The report quoted Moreno, who said in an interview with DZMM: "According to Chief Fiscal Cerezo, we are being released on the basis of insufficiency in evidence." The report pointed out that incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has denied orchestrating Moreno and company’s arrest.
